Private Lessons
Individual, one-on-one instruction is currently being offered by excellent, qualified teachers as follows:
Voice
Terri Ellis
Leigh Seirafi
Brass and Woodwinds
Ron Youmans
Guitar, bass, and percussion
Will Collins
Dave Ullrich
Piano
Six instructors teach piano privately: Marleen Andrews, Kelley Coppage, Brady Johnson, Joanne Knott, Leigh Seirafi, and Jill Truax. Instructional approaches are matched to an individual student's age, skill level, and personality. Instructors generally follow the traditional classical style of teaching that includes a blend of piano theory, sight-reading, and technical finger exercises. Students are exposed to a variety of musical styles, but may specialize as they advance.
Lessons can start around age 5 or 6, when children are able to read, excepting students who are exceptionally talented or have musically knowledgeable parents willing to offer assistance. There is no upper age limit. Several Academy students are in their 70s.
