John Houpt

John Houpt is an active full time percussionist in South and Central Florida, performing weekly in theaters from Miami to Melbourne with many top orchestras. He has performed for the Palm Beach Atlantic University music department, Miami University and Lynn University music departments, as well as a master class for the Florida bandmasters Association. He has toured Brazil and has an upcoming tour of Italy. He has performed with many national acts that have come to South and Central Florida.

As well as having a large inventory of orchestral percussion instruments, John has a unique distinction of still playing a drum set his parents bought him for Christmas as a boy. With this drum set, and over 20 years of teaching experience, he has played many styles of music and he knows what students need to learn. Instruction experienced includes knowing how to fast track the learning process and get the student performing quickly with minimum expense. To quote John’s one rule,

 “The more I transfer my talent, the better my talent becomes”.
